Egypt is the perfect place to see more for less! Check out some of the cheapest attractions in Luxor, from temples to river cruises.
#4 Attraction in Luxor – Banana Island
The first attraction we enjoyed was the Banana Island-Nile River Cruise. This is a great way to enjoy your first night there. The cruise takes you on a short excursion to banana island, you can enjoy the sunset & some tea. During, the guides might even let you try to steer the boat. However, you should know once you arrive to Banana Island its not anything special, the highlight is being on the water, in my opinion.

Once you arrive to Banana Island the guide will take you through the island to this little zoo where you can pet and feed animals. They had monkeys, snakes and turtles. Also there was a little shop to buy souvenirs. If you’re expecting a tour or history of the island this isn’t that. However, for only $15 it is TOTALLY WORTH IT! It just wasn’t what I expected. This was booked through the hotel, like most of my excursions on my Egypt trip.
One of the things I HIGHLY RECOMMEND to do is hire a tour guide, the experience will not be the same without one!

#3 Attraction in Luxor – Temple of Queen Hatshepsut
This next attraction was my favorite to learn about while in Luxor. I was fascinated by the history here but in particular with this woman’s story – Queen Hatshepsut. She is famous for being the only women to become King! She dressed as man so that people would be more accepting of her taking rule. You don’t want to miss her story and temple. The temple is two stories and was supposed to be 3 stories but when she lost power her step-son tried his best to erase her contributions from history. The entrance fee was only $6 .

Attractions in Egypt can be super affordable, just remember to always negotiate if you feel it is too pricy, it doesn’t hurt to ask. It can simply be “can you do $$?”

#2 Attraction in Luxor – Valley of the Kings
The third attraction is The Valley of the Kings. Before planning this trip I had no idea what this was. All the tombs of the ancient kings are held here. Written on the walls is their life story so when they returned they would know who they were. Kings buried all their belongings with them and these tombs took years to make. You can learn so much fascinating history with a tour guide! We got super lucky with our tour guide she was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable! The admission allows you to visit a handful of tombs, but we only visited 4 sites because we had a packed schedule.

So how much did it cost? A full day guided tour with two sites from the East Bank (Hatshepsut Temple and Valley of the kings) and two from the West Bank (Karnak Temple & Luxor Temple) was under $40. Prices may vary a little per person because we were in a group of 4. I booked through our hotel, they were super helpful and friendly. I recommend booking everything through the hotel, its easier, faster and will save you time. Make sure to research prices before hand, and if you are reading this than you are! Booking it on your own would probably only save a couple dollars.

#1 Attraction in Luxor – Hot Air Balloon Ride
One of my favorite attractions in Luxor hands down is the Hot Air Balloon ride. It was one of the most mesmerizing experiences since you can see how the landscape differs and how fruitful the land is. This only cost $40 if you want to book before hand check out this tripadvisor page. But your hotel or taxi driver can also recommend an agency for this price or cheaper.
